Our One Game

Ever since baseball returned to Washington, my husband Darren and I have had season tickets or partial season tickets for the Washington Nationals. With life getting busier and money getting tighter, we had to give up our tickets this year. We continued to follow baseball and our team, but every time we tried to get to a game our plans fell through due to weather or busy schedules. But on Saturday, September 17th, we finally made it to a game. It was the Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day game and Stephen Strasburg was pitching!

Since this was likely to be our only game this season, we decided to get tickets in the PNC Diamond Club. We had Presidents Club tickets for a game last year and thought the Diamond Club would be pretty similar. The tickets still included complimentary food and beverages. However we were never able to get a seat inside the club even though we put our name on the hostess’ list and the service at the seats was pretty poor. It was a Saturday night though and with Strasburg pitching, the place was pretty full. On the plus side, the view from our seats was great!

The game was lots of fun. Strasburg pitched for six innings allowing one run on four hits. It was a shame he couldn’t keep going, but thanks to the team’s solid relief pitching and Ramos’ home run, the game remained tied and went into extra innings. Unfortunately for Balester and the Nats, the Marlins scored a home run in the 13th inning to win the game. All in all, there was some good pitching and some great plays making for another terrific night at Nationals Park.

There aren’t many games left in this season, but fortunately we are not at the bottom of the National League East this year. We have so much potential for the future, it is nice to see! In other baseball news, I can’t wait to see the movie Moneyball, which is out in theatres this Friday. In the meantime, Go Nats!!
